Futurenet is a software company that develops and sells point of sale systems to help retailers efficiently manage the front and back end operations in their stores. Unlike other POS software vendors, FutureNet provides their customers with POS hardware and support, for a complete system. FutureNet’s aim is that their customers never have to call anyone else.
The business was started in 1995, by Scott Munro and Barry Sams, who both worked at for a POS hardware vendor. The idea for FutureNet was sparked when they saw the time it took to fix problems with registers – time that had a big impact on the customer’s business. The hardware supplier advised that it was a software problem and vice versa.
Scott and Barry decided that a different model was needed – one that supplied software, hardware, service and support, so that the customer had only ‘one throat to choke’ and a higher level of availability and service. And so FutureNet was born.
They were joined by Eddie Bertinat, whose programming skills allowed them to develop a product set that met the needs of the independent grocery sector, including IGA, SPAR and Foodworks stores, along with high end butchers, bakers, and delis.
More recently Michael Wyllie has joined the FutureNet team, bringing his extensive experience of building POS systems for hospitality. Michael is responsible for applications that became de facto industry standards, adopted by a large proportion of the Australian market.
